You might find that time (is), productive to waste

Time is labour, materials are wasted, collecting and scavenging wastes time, time adds value. There has been an evolution over time of how the collection of found materials equates to value, labour and economy. Material economies extract every possible product and service for profit. The labour of gathering, sorting, cleaning and composing produces value in what is left behind. Working with lost, broken, and discarded scraps—metal remnants and fragments of garments—the work examines acquisition and use, speaking to the end points of material life. Compositions and accumulation of surface on dress acting as a way to restore, carry and hide.

D&K is a collaborative practice between Ricarda Bigolin and Chantal Kirby based in Naarm/ Melbourne, founded in 2012. Working with the disregarded, found or worn, they explore ways to transcend material values and behaviours. Garments, sculpture, performance and writing are configured to embody emotional currency, interrogating the impact of fashion systems.
